Abstrak

Buku English for Nusantara (EN) adalah buku teks yang disediakan oleh pemerintah Indonesia dan menjadi buku ajar yang dapat digunakan guru untuk kegiatan belajar mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah menengah pertama di Indonesia. Sebelum menggunakannya, guru harus mengevaluasi tingkat keterbacaanya karena buku ajar dengan tingkat keterbacaan yang rendah dapat menurunkan motivasi siswa dalam belajar dan memungkinkan mereka untuk tidak dapat mencapai tujuan belajar mengajar yang maksimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi keterbacaan EN. Menggunakan sampel EN untuk kelas tujuh, penelitian ini membawa pertanyaan penelitian berupa bagaimana tingkat keterbacaan buku ajar English for Nusantara. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan studi kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan alat keterbacaan gratis bernama WebFX yang diakses secara daring untuk mengukur tingkat keterbacaan teks dalam buku ajar tersebut. Di antara teks EN untuk kelas tujuh, peneliti mengambil 18 teks dan menganalisisnya menggunakan rumus pengukuran pada alat tersebut. Studi ini menemukan bahwa tingkat keterbacaannya dari teks-teks yang ada dalam buku ajar tersebut tinggi, sehingga teks mudah dibaca. Keterbatasan penelitian dan saran untuk penelitian masa depan juga dibahas.
